Although the Polish military has operated the Mi-8 since 1968, this is, undoubtedly, the most famous single helicopter in Poland! This Hip was built in 1973 and outfitted for ten passengers. It was operated by the 36th Special Air Transport Regiment in Warsaw and was used to fly Pope John Paul II during his pilgrimages to Poland in 1983 and 1997, and so accounts for its celebrity within the country.
