This new MBB BK117 A-3, msn 7103, was photographed undergoing completion at the MBB Helicopter Canada facility in Fort Erie, Ontario on March 11, 1987. The helicopter was registered C-FIOM sometime in 1988 (after Imperial Oil retired their Grumman G-159, C-FIOM). Between June 1991 and May 1992, the BK117 was leased to the Canadian Armed Forces as 143106 to flight test systems developed for the new Shipborne Helicopter (NSA) by Honeywell Canada. In the Spring of 1992 it was leased to Heliflyg in Sweden as SE-JBK for HEMS trials before returning to Canada as C-FIOM to join STARS in June 1993. This photo is copyright © Kenneth I.
