It was inactivated in 1981 as the interceptor mission was being transferred to the Air National Guard. 59-0066 was built in Apr 1960. Retired to MASDC with inventory code FN101 on 04 Sep 1985. To AEL Inc of East Alton, IL on 25 Feb 1992 for conversion to a QF-106. To Tyndall AFB, FL on 20 May 1992 and shot down by an AIM-120 on 22 Sep 1995.

German F-104 training was done in Arizona where the weather was better than in Western Europe. This aircraft was built by Lockheed in 1961. Carried WGAF serials KF+102, DA+321, BG+122 and 20+21. Transferred to the USAF as 63-13243 in 1963. In 1982 the aircraft starred in the movie 'The Right Stuff'. Sold to the USAF on 19 Jul 1983. Later transferred to the Republic of China Air Force as 4368. Crashed in a fatal accident on 24 Mar 1990 in a collision with 4385.
