19 April 1945: TOS USAAF and assigned to the 393rd Composite Squadron/509th Composite Group, Wendover Army Air Field, UT. It was converted to "Silverplate" Victor number 77. 9 August 1945: Dropped the "Fat Man" atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. 11 September 1946: Davis-Monthan for storage. 26 September 1961: Flew to Patterson Field, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH, for the Air Force Museum. 17 October 1970: Towed to the new Museum facility at Wright Field.

This a/c dropped the atomic bomb Fat Man over Nagasaki, Japan on 9 August 1945. After the war, the 509th Bomb Group returned to the U.S. and was stationed at Roswell AFB, NM. In 1946 this a/c was earmarked for the USAF Museum and put in long term storage at Tucson. It was restored to flying condition and flown to the USAF Museum, arriving 26 September 1961. Shown here in the outdoor aircraft display area next to the original museum. It is currently on display in the WW 2 Gallery in the current museum.

'Bockscar' on display at the National Museum of the USAF, was one of 15 specially modified "Silverplate" B-29s assigned to the 509th Composite Group. 'Bockscar' dropped the Fat Man atomic bomb on Nagasaki on 9th Aug. 1945, three days after the atomic attack against Hiroshima.
