84 Sqd Scorpion on nose intake. UN blue band around rear fuselage and "Joker" on fin. ex 9327M. Was originally exhibited near to the ATC squdron but now resides opposite the 84 Sqd hangar/offices within the base. There is a memorial plaque on a large stone in front of the a/c which reads - "Wessex Memorial - In Memory of all those who have served on No. 84 Squadron"

XP345 initially served the CFS at Terhill in camouflage, later gaining the yellow overall scheme for SAR work. It is now exhibited by the Yorkshire Helicopter Preservation Group in the camouflage markings carried for service with the UN Peacekeeping Force in Nicosia, Cyprus while assigned to 84 Sdn RAF at Akrotiri. Displayed outdoors at the 2018 RAF 100 airshow at Cosford, this Whirlwind had the distinction of making the final flight of the type by the RAF - on 1st March 1982 it was the last to land of a formation of Whirlwinds in a flypast at Akrotiri to mark the disbandment of 'B' Flight, 84 Sqdn.

In Aeroventure

Aircraft is in full RAF markings but transfered to QinetiQ.

Normally this SAR-equipped Griffin can be found in the sunnier climes of RAF Akrotiri, where it serves with 84 Squadron.

This is believed to have been the first time a non-Irish military aircraft visited Weston. It was taking part in a search & rescue conference being held in the airport.

84 Squadron 'Scorpiones Pungun' began to receive Beverleys at RAF Khormaksar in May 1958, where they served until September 1967 after which time the Squadron gave up its Beverleys, moved to Sharjah and became an Andover Squadron. XL149 was flown to RAF Finningley for preservation but ended up being scrapped in 1977. The nose section survived and is now on display at the South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum/Aeroventure.

XP345 was originally delivered to the RAF as a training aircraft but was substantially damaged during a landing accident in Snowdonia. After repair it served on SAR duties, including a posting to support the UN at Akrotiri in Cyprus, and is credited with having made the last ever flight by a RAF Whirlwind.

Preserved in its markings of No 84 Sqn at RAF Akrotiri and the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus.
