Seen at a Balloon Festival at Nottingham's Wolaton Park. This balloon was named Tar Baby

Before balloonists started using petrol driven fans, someone, nicknamed 'Cremation Charlie' had to stand inside using a stick to hold the fabric up as the buners were used to heat it. When he could no longer stand the heat, the burner was turned off and he got out, Dave Hooper from the Dublin Balloon Club is seen here in that dangerous role at Wollaton Park. This first flew in 1968 and was withdrawn from use in 1978. It is now preserved. Seen at Wollaton Park

Whilst the CAA lists this as a hot air ballooon it is evidently not. Named Omega II it had a volume of 590 cubic metres and, If my memory serves me correctly, it used coal gas. It was written off on 28th February 1978. Seen at Wollaton Park.
