Langley Park was Perth's first airport. It opened in 1920 but was replaced by Maylands airport in 1924. Starting in 1984, the riverside park became the site every three years for sports aircraft fly-ins. These continued until 1999. Since then it has been used by Red Bull racers (last time in 2010). As the major open space in central Perth, the park is the venue for many (non-aviation) events throughout the year. VH-KCG has been fitted with a Lycoming engine, which is the reason for the A2 designation. It was operated as a glider tug.
