Small numbers of US Air Force F-86As and F-86Fs were modified for photo reconnaissance work in the Korean War, and officially designated RF-86A / RF-86F. Despite its markings, this aircraft is not one of these, but one of 18 F-86Fs similarly converted for the Japanese air force by Mitsubishi in 1961, US MAP serial 52-4758 and Japanese serial 52-7401. Note the bulges accomodating the cameras. The rear fuselage is from another F-86F, 55-5082. This photo is copyright © Peter de Jong, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
