The best German fighter of the Great War, the D.VII served with many countries after WWI, including the Netherlands, where Anthony Fokker returned, and the USA. This aircraft, German army serial D.436/18, went to the USA but was in civilian hands as N3764, starred in Howard Hughes' air war movie Hell's Angels. From 1954 it was N4729V. Now preserved in early Dutch 'orange meatball' markings. This photo is copyright © Peter de Jong, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
