Photo taken about a year after the RAAF base closed for the second and last time. It had been built during World War II as part of the Empire Air Training Scheme. It closed after the war and became a camp for displaced persons from Europe. The RAAF returned in September 1951 with the No. 1 Basic Flying Training School until it returned to RAAF Point Cook in December 1958. The hangars and buildings were auctioned in the 1960s and airfield sold as farmland. The control tower in the photo is not the wartime structure. That was relocated to Evetts Field near Woomera.
