The Rhönbussard was designed for Schleicher by Hans Jacobs and first flew in 1933. It was an advanced training glider and 220 were built by Schleicher. Additionally an unknown number were built by some small manufacturers and gliding clubs. The one seen here is a composite of cns 227 and 649 assembled by Segelflug IG Hiltenfingen between 1951 and 1953. In 1974 it came to the Deutsches Segelflugmuseum at Wasserkuppe. It is painted to commemorate D-HESSELBERG from the mid 1930s. This photo is copyright © Peter Vercruijsse, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
