This F-4S of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 134 "Smoke" was retired in 1988 and rebuild as QF-4S after storage at MCAS Cherry Point (NC). The Phantom was delivered to the Naval Weapons Test Squadron Point Mugu late 1999. Planned to become an unmanned future aerial target, things went different for this airframe as it crashed with modex 124 on 20 April 2002 during the airshow of NAS Point Mugu (CA).
