The USMC converted their AV-8As to AV-8Cs, with upgraded avionics, forward-looking passive radar, tail warning radar and increased VTOL performance. This upgrade may be the reason behinds its display here at the 1976 Japan International Aerospace Exhibition. This particular aircraft was later transferred to VMA-213 and it was the first USMC Harrier to go into MASDC storage, on 15 Aug 1985.
