The prototype "Piston" Herald had first flown on August 25, 1955. It is seen displaying to the SBAC Show crowd just 16 days later, wearing Queensland Airlines colours. Powered by four Alvis Leonidas engines, it was later fitted with two RR Darts and first flew thus on March 11, 1958.
