The S.73 was the civil counterpart of the SM.81 Pipistrello bomber. Sabena and ČSA were the only export customers. Seven S.73s were built in Belgium. Italian-built OO-AGP was delivered to Sabena in early 1936 and destroyed at Brussels - Haren during the German invasion in May 1940. She was painted orange on the outbreak of war in September 1939 to signify a neutral airliner, like the Danish Fw 200 Condor, OY-DAM, in the foreground.
