VH-GWS was first registered in October 1963. Over the years it had several accidents and rebuilds and at the time of the photo was PA-25-235 A1 with a altered cockpit for a passenger, a common Australian modification. It was later rebuilt as a prototype GippsAero GA-200 Fatman, it which guise it was destroyed in a crash at Leongatha, Victoria, on May 1, 2012.
