The prototype TSR-2 first flew on 27 September 1964. It made 24 test flights with a total time of 13 hours 9 minutes, the last being on 31 March 1965. I had seen it take off for a test flight on 8 March leaving a vivid trail of shock diamonds in its wake. 11 June 1966 was the only public viewing of the aircraft which left by road for destructive tests at Shoeburyness soon afterwards.
