Wapitis had only just been delivered to the RAAF when A5-4 made an appearance at an air pageant at Essendon. It flew with the air force for 10 years until crashing at Mount Buninyong, Victoria on December 12, 1939. The RAAF received 44 Wapitis but one was damaged in a wharf accident and never entered service.
