The 1984 edition of the Southern Cross Air Race was a 16-day official event, part of Victoria's 150th Anniversary celebrations. The race departed Moorabbin on 1 Nov and ended in Melbourne on 18 Nov, routing via Adelaide, Coober Pedy, Alice Springs, Ayers Rock, Mount Isa, Longreach, Brisbane, Bathurst and Mildura. The Army entered this Nomad, a CA-32 Kiowa and a Pilatus Turbo Porter. The Nomad was acquired by Australian Army in Nov 1982 and served with School of Army Aviation. It was sold to Indonesia Navy as P-829 circa 1997. This photo is copyright © David Tanner, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
