VH-AET was famously shot down off Sydney's coast on August 30, 1955. It had taken off from Bankstown without its pilot following a botched hand start. Brought down by Australian navy Sea Furies after RAAF Meteors had failed to despatch the circling Auster. Photo from: Civil Aviation Historical Society, Melbourne, Australia
