In May 1998, No. IX (Bomber) Squadron received the RAF's first Tornado GR4s. These swing wingers flew until early 2019 with the squadron, after which it received the Eurofighter Typhoon FGR4 at home base RAF Lossiemouth on 1 April 2019.
