In May 1992 the pilot of this MiG-21bis in the service of the Yugoslav air force defected to his native Croatia, this being the second MiG to be acquired this way. Another was to follow in the same month. The precious aircraft was zealously guarded and flown just occasionally. Its former ID was 17235.
