After the Mirage IIIV VTOL fighter project, Dassault built a swept-wing prototype powered by one P&W TF30 engine, the Mirage IIIF2 or Mirage F2 (centre). The planned single-seat, TF30-engined Mirage F3 interceptor was abandoned in favour of the variable-geometry Mirage G, however. The TF30-powered Mirage IIIG prototype is seen in the background. Eventually the twin-engined Mirage G8 got cancelled too in 1973 and the smaller and simpler, Atar 9K-50-engined Mirage F1, in the foreground, became the Mirage III's successor instead.
