This An-22 made its first flight in January 1966 as CCCP-56391 but soon went the Soviet Air Force as '03 red', where it established a world record by hauling a payload of 100,444.6 kg to a height of 7,848 m in October 1967. It set further records but was eventually recalled to Antonov and underwent a special conversion to enable it to transport An-124 wings. It was rebuilt to a normal freighter and made its last flight in December 1999 to Speyer where it is on display at the Technikmuseum. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
