The Nationale Volksarmee (NVA) was the armed forces of East Germany up to 1990. This MiG-29A was assigned to Jagdfliegergeschwader 3 (JG-3) "Wladimir Komarow" at Preschen air base. The 777 made its first flight on 20 November 1988, was delivered to the NVA in January 1989, and according to NVA data the aircraft only flew some 180 flight hours before it was delivered to the Luftwaffe on 3 October 1990 as 2918.
