The Nationale Volksarmee (NVA) was the armed forces of East Germany up to 1990. This MiG-29A was assigned to Jagdfliegergeschwader 3 (JG-3) "Wladimir Komarow" at Preschen air base. The 684 made its first flight on 22 September 1988, and was delivered to the NVA in November 1988, and according to NVA data the aircraft only flew some 210 flight hours before it was delivered to the Luftwaffe on 3 October 1990 as 2914.
