Wears the markings and serial number of "Miss Velma", as flown by Captain Frank Birtciel, of the 343rd Squadron/55th Fighter Group, based at Wormingsford, England in 1945. "Miss Velma" was named in honour of his future wife. Captain Birtciel completed two tours, the first in the P-38 and the second in the P-51, flying a total of 121 combat missions. With thanks to the excellent "little friends" and "warbirds resource group" websites for the information.
