This Dakota was rarely seen or photographed as it was tucked away inside the barracks on the far side of the field at Gatow. Originally delivered to the RAAF in Feb 1945 and flown over 11 days to Berlin to commemorate the Australian contribution to the Berlin airlift, arriving on 18 Jun 1980. Given the RAF serial ZD215 on arrival at Gütersloh after ferry flight from RAAF Butterworth (Malaysia) as until 1989 only British, French and American aircraft were guaranteed safe passage through the Berlin air corridor This photo is copyright © Richard Vandervord, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
