Delivery of N1027V to Pan Am on 2 March 1949 was at Portland, Oregon for tax avoidance reasons. On 13 March, she made a press flight from San Franciso to the Grand Canyon. She then went on public display in Los Angeles, San Diego, and Salt Lake City as seen here, before going into regular service. She was also named Clipper Rainbow and Clipper Friendship.
