The VAK-191B is an experimental German vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) strike fighter from the early 1970s that was developed to eventually replace the Italian Fiat G.91 in GAF service. However, development was extremely protracted and difficult so VFW took the decision for the VAK-191B to effectively become a technology demonstrator and experimental aircraft to support the company's other activities and future programmes. A total of 91 flights were performed prior to the retirement of all three prototypes in 1975. This photo is copyright © Alastair T.
