Posed here alongside a SAAF Mirage F1, a typical adversary from the wars fought by Angola since its independence in 1975, about 20 of the 100 or so Mig-21s delivered are thought still to be in service. Three are said to have fallen victim to the Mirages, but one was credited with shooting down an SAAF C-130 in 1986 - which did not actually happen This photo is copyright © Richard Vandervord, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
