Jumbos were never widely used by Delta until much more recently as a result of the Northwest takeover, but they could be seen on Heathrow schedules for a short period back in the Seventies. And they will have the distinction of being the last US airline to operate them on passenger services. N9900, seen here taking off from runway 10R in September 1974, was a 1971-build Srs 100 converted to a freighter in 1977. Went to Flying Tigers as N805FT being taken over by FedEx as N625FE; ended up as Kalitta's N709CK and and scrapped at Oscoda, MI (the old Wurtsmith AFB) in 2015 This photo is copyright © Richard Vandervord, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
