Coming over the hedge for static display at the 2005 Waddington Airshow this was the first Nimrod to enter service with the RAF in 1969. Tragically it exploded in mid air over Afghanistan on 2nd September 2006 killing all 14 persons on board. This crash led to an extensive enquiry which resulted in the premature retirement of the entire RAF Nimrod fleet and deprived the UK of a genuine maritime reconnaissance aircraft for over a decade.
