Despite the fact that at this time EMA was a stronghold for turboprops with jets only being rare visitors, Qantas considered a service to Australia via LHR from East Midlands. The runway was marginal for the operation and the service did actually run from Manchester instead. I believe that this was the first visit of a 747 to EMA. Also visible are a Dan Air Viscount and Britannia Airways 737
