VH-MWD was one of four Cessna 402s that helped establish Masling Airlines as a third-level airline. These airlines stepped in to fill the void caused by the withdrawal of DC-3s on regional routes that could not sustain Fokker F27s. The 402s were replaced by Queen Airs and VH-MWD was sold in Papua New Guinea, becoming P2-MWD in 1974 on the commencement of that country's register.
