Note: The numbers "58" which can just be seen behind the wing is not that of a reg or serial but in fact the last two numbers of the telephone number of the (then) Detroit Institute of Aeronautics. This aircraft was once civil registered as N86599 but it never carried that registration, even not on its ferry flight. In 2017 this "forgotten" registration was finally officially cancelled.
