The Alfred Wegener Institut für Polarforschung was officially the registered owner of this short Dornier 228. This explains the registration D-CAWI. They now operate amongst other airplanes Turbo Dakotas for their Polar research programs. According to its "Umweltschutz in Bayern" titels, this Dornier 228 "Messflugzeug" is more concerned about the environment in Bavaria.
