While there to witness the event, I was able to capture this close up of N400NC, moments before the wheels left the ground for the first time as the aircraft departed the Gimli airstrip on its "Maiden Flight," November 16, 1991. Sadly though, on August 27, 1992, the aircraft crashed at the Gimli Airport while on a test flight because an elevator gust lock re-engaged. This was due to a design flaw.
