The recovery operation begins. Flight BA38 landed about 300 meters short of runway 27L on 18 Jan 2008, after both engines had lost power due to a restricted fuel flow. The left main gear was pushed up through the wing, and the right main gear separated from the wing entirely. Fuel leaked, but there was no fire. Actually witnessing the scene brought home the extraordinarily short distance in which Triple Mike stopped. The lack of deformation is some credit to the integrity of Boeing's design, too.
