This is a replica of an aircraft that first flew in July 1916 and 125 of which were built. Despite being much faster than any of the opposing German 'eindeckers' they were considered to be less safe than bi or tri planes with landing speeds too high for the small French airfields from which they were likely to operate. The reasons were more due to a prejudice against monoplanes prevelant in the period though downward visibility was poor and a problem.
