Britannia Airways was committed to the campaign of stopping the EU's planned abolition of Duty Free sales on intra European flights. The airline painted the slogan "Keep Duty Free" on to its 29 aircraft to try and raise public awareness of the debate. Despite efforts by some governments to reverse the plan, the abolition went ahead effective 30 June 1999.
