One of three B737-200 surveillers operated by Skadron Udara 5 based at Makassar - Sultan Hasanuddin Airport since 1982/83. AI stands for "Angkut Intai" and relates to the aircraft's main mission, which is "maritime patrol". A Motorola AN/APS-135(V) side looking airborne modular multi-mission radar (SLAMMR) is mounted in a 16ft / 5 meter housing on either side of the upper rear fuselage. The system can spot ships up to a radius of 100 nautical miles, some 185 kilometers. This photo is copyright © Adrian Romang, and may not be used or published in any way without permission.
