In '71, the Luftwaffe chose the F-4F as a replacement for its F-104G. The F-4F was a stripped-down and cheaper version of the F-4E, and contained much components that were manufactured in Germany. As part of the purchase, an agreement was made between Germany and the USA to conduct basic F-4 transition/instructor training with the 20th Tactical Fighter Training Squadron at George. The 20th also supported members of the German Air Force Training Squadron (GAFTS) under which military were assigned in the USA. Training at George ended on 5 Jun'92.
