At the mouth of the Beardmore Glacier. The aircraft crashed here that afternoon. This Beaver had first operated in Antarctica in 1956-58, then as NZ6001, but it was discovered that serial had already been worn by a Gloster Meteor. Shipped to Antarctica again in December 1957. The NZ roundel featured a fern at this time, but it was not distinctive enough and the kiwi was adopted in the late 1960s. Photo by: Barry Smith / Gary Danvers Collection
