In an effort to remove from Australia aircraft that could threaten the two-airline policy, the federal government bought the DC-3s owned by the failed operator Jetair. The aircraft were then given way as aid. VH-EQB went to Laos. The two-airline policy was finally abolished in 1990. Neither of the two airlines protected by the policy survived beyond 2001.
