The Wedell-Williams 44 was a successful racing aircraft of the early 1930s. NR536V was piloted by both Jim Haizlip and his wife May, then the fastest woman in the world. They were based in St Louis where the photo should have been taken. The other Model 44 is NR61Y/121, the Gilmore Red Lion of Roscoe Turner.
