Following Operation Corporate in 1982, which saw one of the RAF's air defence Phantom squadrons permanently deployed to the Falklands, the British Government purchased fifteen surplus F-4Js from the US Navy to solve the RAF's airframe shortage. The aircraft were delivered in 1984 to the newly reformed 74 Squadron. This example is seen on the eve of Leuchars annual Battle of Britain at Home Day.
