A fully armed "Q" jet about to perform a "One Eighty" to backtrack Leuchars main runway after returning from a mission. The aircraft is armed with 4x AIM-132 ASRAAM and 4x AIM-120 AMRAAM, as well as its internally-mounted 27mm Mauser cannon. Because of its strategic location, Leuchars has been home to the RAF's frontline air defence fighter aircraft throughout the Cold War to date, defending the UK's airspace from airborne threat almost continuously, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
