This Swiss F-5E nicely shows its M39A2 cannon. This 20mm cannon was introduced in 1964, but is was based on the M39 which was developed in the USA shortly after WWII. The design was based on the German Mauser MG 213 cannon developed for the Luftwaffe. More than 75 years later and still in use, that certainly can be called a successful design.
