The first DB-8A for the Netherlands, first flown late July 1939 and shipped on 26 August. The Douglas El Segundo plant was adjacent to LAX. Jack Northrop had sold his business, including the A-17 attack aircraft design, to Douglas to start a new company in nearby Hawthorne.
